Hi there!
I have just recently finished my book review for A Clockwork Orange.
If you are interested in reading it I will leave it to you here.

I do like the point of view, because by knowing the thoughts of Alex(principle character) I am able to get to know him better, his personality, how he may be in the inside, but not in the exterior. It is just a way more immersive  experience. I get to know how he analyzes
every situation and what is his criteria for taking decisions.  In general, I just prefer the first person narrative in any book because I am able to relate better to the principal character, so it was good that it was written in first person A clockwork Orange. I wouldn't change the point of view, because the first person narrative is my favorite one as mentioned previously.

Imagery and characterization to give the reader a good picture of the setting and the nature of the characters. Imagery draws to the visual, auditory, texture, and scent senses.  An example of imagery would be: "My endeavour shall be, in such future as stretches out its snowy and lilywhite arms to me before the nozh overtakes or the blood spatters its final chorus in twisted metal and smashed glass on the highroad, to not get loveted again. Which is fair speeching." In here Alex talks of violence and gore in a beautiful and aesthetic way, using visual imagery.

At night, Alex meets up with his friends and proceed to break into an old woman's mansion to loot it. The police arrive just in time and arrest Alex, just after Dim temporarily blinds Alex in the eye with his chain. Sentenced to 14 years in jail, Alex initially has a hard time adjusting to the environment. Things get easier after two years, though, as he becomes friend of the prison chaplain(a member of the clergy attached to a private chapel, institution, ship, regiment, etc), he takes an interest in the Bible, and is allowed to listen to classical music while doing Bible study.

The author uses the symbol of a clockwork Orange, which is also the name of the novel. A clockwork Orange refers to a mechanically responsive (clockwork) human and orange doesn't actually mean an orange, but it is the Malay word orang, that means "man"). The author refers to clockwork Oranges throughout the book , what he means is that they are humans that act like robots, or do what they are told to without questioning it                       (mechanically)

It helps you visiualize were and when the story takes plays, and it gives you more details about the characters, and it may help you understand better the behavior of some characters. In this novel the setting isn't conveyed directly but the reader is able to infer it by the characters and the places they go. I infer it takes place in a large town or a small city in England, as well as a countryside village, in the not so distant future.

Anthony Burgess wrote  in the introduction that the title was a reference to an old Cockney expression, "as queer as a clockwork orange".Due to his time in the British Colonial Office in Malaysia, Burgess thought that the phrase could be used jokingly to refer to a mechanically responsive (clockwork) human (orang, which is  Malay for "man").

The novel has a first person narrator, the narrator being the main character Alex. First person narrators narrate the same way they talk, but with more description and maybe better grammar. The reader has access to all his thoughts and opinions, which means they get to know the main character faster, and often relate to him more easily.
I know this because when the story starts the narrator starts using words like "I" ,"Me", "My", "Our", "We", "Us", etc ; and he gives his thoughts and opinions pretty often.

ALEX:
Fifteen-year-old narrator and protagonist. Alex is a vicious leader of a gang of criminals who occasionally go to school by day and then murder by night. He loves classical music and finds that violence and music provide him with similar kinds of aesthetic pleasure.

F. Alexander:
Writer and political discordant. F. Alexander’s wife dies as a result of being murdered by Alex’s gang. After his wife dies, he devotes his life to unseating the government.

Pete :
A member of Alex’s gang. Pete is mild-mannered and calm.

Georgie:
A member of Alex’s gang. Georgie is the most ambitious of Alex’s first gang, and leads the rebellion against Alex.

Dim:
A member of Alex’s gang who  becomes a police officer. Dim is the biggest, strongest, and stupidest member of Alex’s gang and he fights with a chain.

For my English semester project I have chosen the booked titled A Clockwork Orange. I have chosen to read this book, because it was recommended by a friend of mine, it is a futuristic book and I have always liked futuristic books because they take you to a whole new Universe. They change your perspective and they make you question yourself "Is this society right?" "Could the majority be wrong?" "Can our belief systems be wrong?" it makes you question what is right from wrong. I have also chosen this book because I read that it was banned from various countries, because they were worried copycats would recreate the actions of the book. This made me interested more in the book, because it made me realize how can a book, an idea change the perspective of society , get to the point to worry the governments and prevail, because ideas will always remain through the end of time.
